General Info

Tucked along 14727 108 Ave, Surrey, BC V3R 1V9, Canada, Malaysian Hut offers a relaxed spot for anyone craving comforting Malaysian flavors. The space feels casual and cozy from the moment you step in, which makes it easy to settle down and focus on what really matters-the food. Whether you’re dropping by for a quick lunch or picking up takeout, the atmosphere keeps things simple and welcoming. Even better, the restaurant includes a wheelchair accessible restroom, making the location convenient for a wide range of guests.

The menu reflects the heart of Malaysian street food culture while still feeling approachable. One dish that stands out immediately is the Beef Rendang. Rich, deeply spiced, and slow-cooked, the beef is tender enough to pull apart easily. Each bite carries layers of flavor that linger without being overwhelming. Alongside it, the Hainan Rice offers a lighter but equally satisfying option. The fragrant rice pairs perfectly with the savory chicken, creating a balanced dish that many regulars seem to return for again and again.

If you enjoy noodle dishes, Penang Char Kway Teow deserves attention. This classic stir-fried noodle plate arrives with a smoky aroma that signals bold flavor before the first bite. The texture of the noodles combined with the savory seasoning makes it a standout on the Malaysian Hut menu. Meanwhile, the Roti Prata adds a different dimension to the dining experience. Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, this flatbread works well as a starter or a comforting side to share.

Dessert lovers shouldn’t skip the Kuih Dadar, a sweet treat that rounds out the meal beautifully. Its soft crepe-like texture and fragrant filling bring a gentle sweetness that contrasts nicely with the savory dishes served earlier. It’s the kind of dessert that feels traditional and satisfying without being overly heavy.

Many visitors stop by Malaysian Hut during lunch hours, especially locals looking for flavorful food that doesn’t feel rushed or overly formal. The casual dining style keeps the experience relaxed, and takeout orders move quickly for those on tight schedules. Because of its cozy setting and approachable menu, the restaurant attracts a mix of first-time diners and regular guests who already know what they like.

Reviews from diners often mention the comforting balance between authentic Malaysian flavors and a welcoming neighborhood feel. Malaysian Hut may not be flashy, but that simplicity works in its favor. The focus remains on serving familiar dishes that people enjoy returning to, whether dining in for lunch or grabbing takeout on the way home.

What customers say?

“ I recently dined at Malaysian Hunt and was thoroughly impressed. The food was incredibly delicious and authentic, the service was outstanding, and the prices were very reasonable. The only downside is that it's cash-only, so come prepared. Despite this, I'll definitely be coming back soon. Highly recommend! ”

“ A cozy spot with truly amazing food—just like I remember from my childhood in Brunei. The flavors are authentic and comforting, and the consistency never disappoints. Irene, the owner, is always warm and welcoming, greeting everyone with a big smile. The price point is fair, and the overall experience keeps me coming back. Always a treat to dine here! ”

“ Talk about authentic, this is it!!! Recommended by a Malaysian friend so definitely lived up to its hype as her family goes there regularly.. Funny how they offer perfume and cologne to guests in the washroom, nice touch. Food lunch specials well worth it, you can smell how fresh and hot, right off the wok (or something like that). Flat noodles and shrimp, just so flavourful! Some parking in front, in commercial building. Not the fanciest for a business meeting but it's here for good food. ”

“ I knew as soon as we walked up and it said "cash only" we were in for a treat. We quickly walked across the street to the gas station and came back - and we were not disappointed. It's a small place with a few tables. No frills. All flavour. Irene has been here for 27 years for a reason - she makes magic in the kitchen. The menu is simple and the pictures in the menu don't do the dishes any justice. They servings were quite large and beautifully plated. We ate the first main dish so fast we didn't even get a picture and even got another curry tofu dish to go and ate it for breakfast - it was still delish. Highly recommend. ”

“ This restaurant has been in business for 27 years and I understand why! My family is from Malaysia and we always look for authentic Malaysian food while travelling and this restaurant is it. From the food types, quality and freshness, it was delicious and tasted like home! The roti chanai was our favourite! ”

“ For starters, please call and make reservations in advance. The staff kindly accommodated us and we were very fortunate to be able to dine at this location as walk-in customers. We ordered a number of items to try. Food was delicious and nicely presented. Service was excellent and friendly. We had our water refilled and staff checked in on us a couple times. Lastly, this is a cash only restaurant so please remember to bring enough cash. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area. ”

“ Amazing little family run restaurant that’s been around since the 2000s. It’s recommended to call before dining as they encourage reservations to be sure that the fresh ingredients are in stock and they have space available for a comfortable dining experience. Irene is one of the sweetest owner’s I’ve met, always contributing a bit of soul and personality to this restaurant. 10/10 recommended ”

“ Had the roti canai which was hot, fresh, fluffy and flaky with a curry sauce that fused nicely together. Next was the chicken satay served with a peanut sauce and a side of pineapples and cucumbers. The texture was soft and tasty and quite unlike any satay I’ve had. The main was the Penang char kway teow, a rice noodle dish with beans sprouts, sliced Chinese sausages and prawns. Tis was not to my taste as it has a burnt flavour, and I got only two prawns for the whole dish even though I had asked for the Chinese sausages to be swapped out. The service was ok and I was asked if I wanted hot or cold water on arrival. Ambience is simple, and the establishment is cash only (debit card may be accepted). Irene, the chef/ owner came to chat and seemed pleasant. Great place for authentic Malaysian meals, and comes highly recommended. Returned and Irene recommended Nonya Mee Hoon Goreng (vermicelli with sambal sauce, sun dried shrimps and prawns) based on my Nigerian palate and some Kui Seri Muka (glutinous rice and pandan leaves). 10/10. This is a repeat visit that I don’t regret. ”
